February 7 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Free
A colorful tapestry depicting three crowned women holding hands and dancing under a tree, with mountains, a river, and stylized flowers in the background, bordered by floral and bird motifs.

The Scandinavian Home: Art and Identity, 1880–1920, a landmark exhibition opening February 7, 2026, at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, Maryland.

WCMFA is only the second North American venue to present this major exhibition, which brings together more than 80 works of painting, textiles, furniture, ceramics, and decorative arts exploring concepts of home, national identity, and artistic expression in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden at the turn of the twentieth century. The exhibition holds special resonance in Hagerstown due to the deep personal connection between museum founder William Henry Singer, Jr., and Norway, where he and his wife built a home.

Opening weekend programming includes Scandinavian-inspired coffee service honoring the tradition of fika, live fiber arts demonstrations, and exhibition tours.
